Inverroy Crisis Management, founded by Matthew Wardner in 2015, has grown into a trusted name in organisational resilience specialising in crisis and continuity management, security risk management, and safety and risk management.

As Inverroy approached its 10th anniversary, Matthew started thinking about the future and how to keep the company thriving for years to come. Like many business owners, he considered several succession options: selling to a third party, a management buyout, or simply continuing as is for now. But none of these felt quite right for Inverroy’s culture and long-term vision.

That’s when Matthew explored employee ownership as an alternative. With the help of a feasibility study funded by Co-operative Development Scotland, he was able to get expert advice and fully assess whether transitioning to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) was the right move for Inverroy.

We partnered with Inverroy 12 months before the official transition, guiding them through the process. The transition was led by Louise Fisher, Senior Legal Manager and Hannah Welch, Manager who helped make sure the transition would empower Inverroy’s talented team while protecting the company’s independence and values.

Hannah Welch said, “It’s been fantastic supporting Matthew and Inverroy through this exciting step. Employee ownership ensures the business’s future is in great hands — with the people who know it best.”

The Inverroy Employee Ownership Trust board now acts as the shareholder, holding Matthew and the Board to account. It includes a representative from employee, Stephanie Ferrier, Operations Manager and former employee, Hannah Hawkins serving as an Independent Trustee Director. This governance structure ensures transparency, accountability, and that employee voices are truly part of the company’s future.

In March 2025, on their 10th anniversary, Inverroy made the transition to employee ownership, officially becoming employee owned. Matthew remains at the helm as Managing Director, leading the company into this new chapter with the support of their employee-owners.

Matthew Wardner said, “Celebrating our tenth anniversary is a testament to our team’s hard work and dedication. Transitioning to employee ownership ensures that Inverroy’s values and mission will continue to thrive, empowering our employees and fostering a collaborative environment.”
