Family Businesses

Employee Ownership, via an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) offers a long term ownership solution for family businesses reaching the end of family succession.  As well as securing the independence of the business for the long term and providing opportunity and reward to employees, many of whom may have been with the business for many years. There is also the opportunity to protect the founding family’s values and legacy via the EOT.

Share Schemes and Hybrid Employee Ownership

In addition to creating Employee Ownership Trusts (EOTs), we  also advise on and implement employee share schemes for direct share ownership. These are often introduced alongside an EOT, creating a hybrid ownership structure, where direct ownership of shares by employees sits alongside the EOT. The EOT provides secure long term ownership and a potential future buyer for those shares directly owned by the employees.

Employee Communications and Training

Communications with the employees around the changes that are taking place as you move into employee ownership are essential if your business is going to thrive in employee ownership.  Employee information sessions, workshops and training sessions are an integral part of the service that we provide to our clients. We also provide these services to other businesses who are transitioning or may have recently transitioned into employee ownership, who have not engaged us for the legal work.
